Italo Crisostomi (1935-2012)

The sculptor Italo Crisostomi was born in Rieti in 1935. After specializing in Art subjects at the High School, he qualified for teaching Drawing and Plastic Arts in High schools and Art Academies. Besides teaching he also directed the local Art School from 1968 to 1973. On the occasion of national and international exhibitions and contests he received several awards to his works, included in public and private collections in Italy, France (Gonesse), Switzerland (Basel), United States (Houston, Cleveland, Canton, Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, Palm Desert, Miami), Dubai, Shangai and Hong Kong.

«…In “Decomposing the shape” Crisostomi places himself in the field of contemporary sculpture, in a very original way. The memory of Classical art adapts itself to modernity perfectly by reducing Greco-Roman torsoes, which have reached us mutilated by time, to empty frayed shells. Beyond that, even if by reducing volumes to cartilage, or bodies to opened shapes, to incomplete somatic cuirasses, the sensuality, permeating Crisostomi’s plastic art, brings the dimension of a contemporary language and of an individual style, which retains both the feeling for Classical art and the tendency to sensuality, creatively togheter…».
